Marching Band Leadership Information
Are you interested in being a leader for next year’s 2024-2025 marching band season? Here are the details of each position, the duties required, as well as what you need to complete to apply. (Being involved in leadership looks great on a resume and college applications!) This is also an opportunity for students to gain experience filling out applications and completing interviews for when they leave SLHS and seek their career path. Remember that leadership positions look really good on your college apps! Results will be posted on !
Head Drum Major: Open to Juniors and Seniors only, this scholar must be respected by staff and peers. They should be organized, timely, and thorough. They answer directly to the band director and will conduct the band during performances, football games, parades, and competitions. Candidates should fill out an application, have 2 reference forms completed (1 by a teacher and 1 by a community member, not a family member or peer). Must have completed 4 Full Seasons (2 Years) of Marching Band. Interview required.
Assistant Drum Major/Associate Drum Major: Open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, this scholar must be respected by staff and peers. They should be organized, timely, and thorough. They answer directly to the band director and drum major. They will conduct the band during performances, football games, parades, and competitions along with and/or in the absence of the drum major. Candidates should fill out an application, have 2 reference forms completed (1 by a teacher and 1 by a community member, not a family member or peer). Must have completed 4 Full Seasons (2 Years) of Marching Band. Interview required.
Section Leader(s) (Woodwind, Brass): Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, this scholar must be respected by staff and peers. They should be organized, timely, and thorough. They answer to the band director and drum majors. They will lead their respective sections in sectionals during rehearsals, and be responsible for their section at all times. Candidates should fill out an application, have 2 reference forms completed (1 by a teacher and 1 by a community member, not a family member or peer). Must have completed 2 Full Seasons (1 Years) of Marching Band. Interview required.
Drumline Captain: Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, this scholar must be respected by staff and peers. They should be organized, timely, and thorough. They answer directly to the band director and will conduct the band during performances, football games, parades, and competitions. Guard Captain(s) [Winter/Color]: Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, this scholar must be respected by staff and peers. They should be organized, timely, and thorough. They answer directly to the band director and will direct the guard unit during drills, exercises, football games, parades, and competitions. Candidates should fill out an application, have 2 reference forms completed (1 by a teacher and 1 by a community member, not a family member or peer). Interview required.
Student Representative: Open to all students, this scholar must be respected by staff and peers. They should be organized, timely, and thorough. They answer to the band director and drum majors. They are to represent the band as a whole with an ideas, concerns, . Candidates should fill out an application, have 2 reference forms completed (1 by a teacher and 1 by a community member, not a family member or peer). Must have completed online application. Interview required.
